Valentine's Traditions Around The World

Valentine's Traditions Around The World

We know what valentine's day is about here in the UK, but what about other places? We've compiled a list of some other countries' Valentine's practices, across the world.

South Korea

Romantic couples celebrate the day of love in South Korea on the 14th of every month. That's right, "the day of roses" is celebrated in May, "the day of kisses" is celebrated in June, "the day of hugs" is celebrated in December, and single people celebrate "the black day" in April.

Ghana

The Ghanaian government declared Feb 14 as "National Chocolate Day" in 2007 in order to boost tourism in the country, which is among the largest cocoa-producing countries in the world. Sounds like a pretty sweet Valentine's day to us!

Bulgaria

Bulgaria celebrates Valentine's Day in a uniquely Bulgarian fashion. On 14 February, saint trifon zarezan is celebrated in Bulgaria, and it means "day of winemakers". Young and old couples enjoy a glass of Bulgarian wine on this special day.

Slovenia

Valentine is one of the patron saints of spring in Slovenia. The first day of working in the fields for the New Year is believed to be February 14, when plants start to regenerate. On this day, birds are also said to 'propose' to each other. Witnessing this rare occasion often requires one to walk barefoot across fields that are still frozen.

With all these interesting romantic practices it's hard not to be intrigued with all the cultures of these amazing places!
